I am an ultra-distance runner/racer turned mountain bike racer. 1st place in the Pacific Crest Trail 100-mile race, in the Laguna Mtns. in 1982. 4th place in the New Astley Belt 6-Day Race, Chula Vista High School track, 1982. Set course record: Tecate to Ensenada run and bike, 1982 (asphalt). Raced 3 times in the Cuyamaca-Laguna 50 km. trail race: self-contained, pack-on-back. Raced/finished 50 miler Lost Boys Race (trail, ultra-running), in 1996, self-contained, pack-on-back. Raced/finished Pacific Crest Trail 50 Miler, self-contained, pack-on back, in 1997. Raced/finished 1995 50 km Pacific Crest Trail (trail, ultra running) self-contained, pack-on-back. Have been riding mountain bikes since 1984. Did a few mountain bike races in the 80's - raced expert, did well. Last year race in the 24 Hours of Temecula and the 24 Hours of Idllwild on Russ Worley's (the ex-Yeti Pro) teams. Raced well in the team format, but now want to get back to my ultra-distance roots and explore 24-hour solo mtb. racing. Since 1985 have operated Carrizo Bikes in Borrego Springs, CA. I know bikes!

Four guys are standing before St. Peter waiting to get into heaven & he wants to know if they have accomplished anything, so they said, "We built comradery, friendship, and learned to support one another by suffering together for 24 hours in this crazy bike race." St. Peter said "When did you do that?" They said, "Oh, we finished about 5 minutes ago!"

Team: Harold's Team
Class: Just For Fun
Our team is named after our friend and fellow rider, Harold Davis, who passed in 2002 from prostate cancer at the age of 38. Harold was born and raised in Az. but spent 10+ yrs. in Ireland for his job. While there he picked up a bit of an accent, a love for beer, and his wife. Harold's nickname was "Barney" after Barney Rubble of the Flintstones. Like Barney helping Fred Flintstone pedal his car with his feet, Harold's used his low gears and rapid spin to climb hills. He was a very strong rider. We miss him and think about him often and use his name in tribute and as motivation to push as hard as we can during the 24 hr. races.

Team: OMAH
Class: 5 Person Coed (At least 1 Female)

Team: Pavlov's Dogs
Class: 5 Person Coed (At least 1 Female)
Made up of San Diego's stealth elite riders. Team captain James Weigand has raced in over ten Granny Gear events from Canaan Valley to the ever awesome Moab event. Mike Abel is going to be our latest secret weapon. Coming off of a near win in a "weight" loss bet (not that he needed it), MAbel has dropped back down to the required A&F model waif weight. His riding abilities combined with his new lack of mass has taken him WAY ahead of the pack. This race will be a certain test of his already vast 24 hour racing experience and new welter weight class of fitness. Murray Wunderly is our resident Ironman triathlete and 24 hour veteran, who is using this race as just a "training race". Emilie Pavlovich (Pavlov) is the token female who is a rookie to the 24 hour event, but otherwise a well seasoned rider given that this is her 2nd season of racing. She also is aiming for future triathlons, so her and Murray will be practicing their transitions from swim to bike at any stream crossings that are deep enough. Last, but certainly not least, is Shane Austin. Also an experienced 24 hour racer and an X-Terra Mtn TriAthlete, he be pearched atop his trusty ALL White Special Ed Stead (probably the only all white mtn bike in the country), tearing up the trails, and most likely participating in transitions practices with Emilie and Murray.
