Laps completed 16 Time of report 7:50 a.m .
The MonaVie/Cannondale Pros continued the race much as they started it - tussling with the Gary Fisher / Tokyo Joes Duo Pro team for the distinction of being the fastest in the race. For most of the day and the early part of the night, the Duo Pro riders remained faster. But as the hour passed 2 a.m. and the cold started to set in, the MonaVie/Cannondale Pros were better able to maintain an even pace.
The Desert Mud team briefly took first place in this class, on lap three, but this was a brief flight of glory and the Monavie/Cannondale Pros soon reasserted themselves. Thereafter, the rest of the Coed Pro/Am field was left to contest second place. By 7:50 a.m. the Desert Mud team had a 15 minute cushion in second place, ahead of Feedback Sports.

Laps completed 1 Time of report 1:35 p.m.
Soft sand slowed conditions a little compared to the fastest years, but a battle of honor—as much as anything else—spurred Mark Gillespie of the MonaVie/Cannondale Pros to go head to head with Duo-Pro team rider Mike Janelle. Gillespie came in to the timing tent a few yards ahead of Janelle, both with a time of 1:03 for the 14.5-mile lap. Gillespie passed the baton on to Jason Sager. Nina Baum rode third, and Thomas Spannring took the anchor leg. The second placed team in this class, Desert Mud, came in six minutes later, at 1:09, and the Beak Naked/Cannondale team was third through with 1:12.
