1999 Toyota 24 Hours of Canaan
News
Clarificiation
For any of you looking at the results,
you may be curious how ties were broken (we had a two of them which
decied podium spots. If it mattered in terms of prizes, the team
that posted the fastest lap time got the nod.
Good
day, y'all
It's just past noon, and the event is still rockin'.
As you might have guessed, the Trek East Coast Factory Team pulled
away with the Coed Pro-Am title finishing a record 21 laps. A full
lap ahead of Team Cane Creek.
Granny is tabulating the results now. We'll be logging back with
'em as soon as their available.
Good
mornin' y'all
The sun has risen, and we're all shaking some cobwebs
out. It's a little dusty here.
If you're logging on and looking for info (and why else would you
be here?), take a visit over to www.WVOutside.com.
They've been sitting next to us (and thankfully showering a bit
more) covering this event too. Stop by, and tell 'em Granny sent
ya.
The
2am update
We said we were going to log off at midnight, but you
know how these things go.
News is that racers are still in great spirits. We've had a couple
of hard crashes that damped some teams moods...and we hope all those
riders recover and try it again next year. It won't be the same
without you.
Only other news is that Mike is still kickin' it live in the announcers
booth. There's nothing like House Party music pumpin' with helmet
and bar lights shining up the sky. It's a ho-down. Or maybe it's
a hoot-n-nanny. Hard to tell.
We'll be out of the office until 6 or 7 EST. By then, we hope to
have lots more reporting for you on each class. Until then, click
here to see the 9:10 pm standings.
Lap
7, working on 8
We've been looking at some of the split times for the
Trek team, now working on their 8th lap. These guys are consistent
-- it's kind of scary. Look at the laps:
No, those
weren't repeats. They just have it down.
Lap
6
The news is the big Coed Duo Pro race. The Trek East
Coast Factory has padded their lead some, finishing lap 6 at 6:19.
Cane Creek is the only other 6 lap finisher, at 6:35.
But the night is drawing near...and anything could happen.
Lap
3
Folks, we got a race on our hands. The Trek East Coast
Factory team is just 2 minutes ahead of Cane Creek. Stay tuned,
this race is heating up as the temperatures in Canaan are (finally)
cooling down.
Lap
2
Records are made to be broken, and Lap's 1 race record
just was. Cane Creek rider Paul Bell just rode an amazing 58 minute
lap. Apparently Trek East Coast Factory Rider David Duvall, an early
favorite to post the fastest time, had chain mechanicals which slowed
his time to 1:01.
Lap
1
How's this for fast? Team Trek East Coast Factory Rider
Chris Etough just pulled a 59 minute first lap (unofficially). That
includes the Le Mans-style run through the prologue...and it equals
the previous record.
Check back in soon, we figure this record won't last the day. Probably
not even another lap.
Pre-Race
It's gonna be a hot one. Temperatures should be in the 80's most
of the day.
The course is dry. It's fast.
The current race record is 59 minutes, set by Gunnar Shogren in
1994. It's certain to fall today.
